Important stuff to know
As long as you have your red P plates (that’s for the first six months), you can only have one passenger in your car at any time. Silver lining: no backseat drivers.
You’ve earned those P plates. Make sure they’re on full view at the front and back of the car whenever you’re driving. You can buy or print your plates. Oh, and always carry your provisional licence with you too.
Red P plate holders aren’t allowed to drive between 12am and 5am unless for school or work. Don’t forget, you’ll need to carry relevant documentation if you’re a red P plater who has to drive between these times.
So, what's next?
Don’t lose more than 4 demerit points from the issue of your learner’s permit until the end of the first year of your provisional licence.
Don’t lose more than 8 demerit points until the end of the second year of your provisional licence.
Stick to your P plate rules, look out for your mates and drive safe. Before you know it, you’ll be rolling with your shiny new full licence in your pocket.
If you can get through your provisional licence without any traffic offences, you’ll score a free year on your licence renewal.
