BEING A WHEELMATE
Nope, it’s not another slogan to sell you stuff. Being a Wheelmate can genuinely help you and your friends stay safe while you’re out on the road.
Wheelmates be real mates
Being a Wheelmate is a way of life. Every time you hop behind the wheel or into a friend’s car, you can shape how that trip ends. It’s:
- Making sure everyone gets home safe.
- Understanding your mates’ lives are literally in your hands; and
- Understanding every other life on the road is too.
Even small actions and attitudes can make all the difference. It’s all about making good choices that’ll protect everyone.

While you’re learning to drive and racking up experience, you’re also statistically far more likely to be involved in a serious crash. That’s why we all need to look out for those around us. You’ve probably got the hang of the technical driving stuff, but being a Wheelmate is about more than that. It’s about planning a safe trip, minimising distractions and making sure everyone gets home safe.
It’s not always easy to speak up if someone's had a few drinks, is messing around on their phone, or decides to floor it. But by supporting ourselves and our mates to make the right decisions, we can make sure a road trip or night out doesn’t end in flashing lights, injuries, or worse.
Let’s make every drive a trip to remember for all the right reasons.
